On this workshop, our lovely tutor Lucy will teach you the art of marbling paper.
After a brief history of paper marbling and its uses. Lucy will introduce you to the tradition method of marbling which uses carragheenan size to float pigments on water. Students will get to try this and a number of modern techniques to create lots of sample patterned papers.
You will then have the time to experiment with these different marbling techniques and create some of your own fantastic pieces of marbled art.
You will leave with all your lovely samples, a handout explaining how to continue your journey and all the recipes we use to create the different marble baths.
This fabulously fun course is 3 hours long and will include hot and cold beverages and lots of lovely biscuits. Please arrive 10 minutes early to allow time to get a brew and get settled, you don’t need to bring anything other than your lovely self (but we do recommend wearing old clothes for this one, some inks will stain). Directions and further information (if needed) will be emailed directly to you two weeks before the course date.
Back in 2008 an Australian lady named Dorothy (Dot) Christian made a small, blob-like fabric doll embellished with beads and created a bit of a phenomenon.
10 years later and we are bringing Dotee dolls to Beeston! They were traditionally made to swap ort gift and spread a little happiness.
There is no right or wrong way to make a Dotee doll, the only rules are no arms or legs, a loop at the top for hanging and a dangly tail.
Dotee dolls are usually 4 to 6 inches in length and can be decorated in any way you like – beads, buttons, sequins, reibbons and embroidery. As much or as little as you like. Your doll could be man or beast, male or female or a bit of a mix!
Any skill level can achieve great results, you don’t have to have any sewing experience at all. We will cover basic sewing techniques, embroidery and stuffing your doll in our session.
These little companion dolls are such fun to create. You can make a personal gift or keep your creation for yourself. You will take home your lovely doll and a goodie bag of treasures such as beads, ribbons and fabric to make more dolls at home if you wish.
All materials are provided plus beverages and light snacks.
