  • Welt Felted Autumn Leaves Sunday 25th October 1pm – 3pm 2020

    £36.00

In this fun 2 hour workshops we will be wet felting a piece of individual and unique felt fabric. We will use our felt fabric to make beautiful Autumn leaves to be used as brooches or hanging decorations.

We will start by learning the basics of wet felting, this will include the terms used for different stages of felting and and introduction to the tools needed. We use household items for our felting, so this is a craft that could easily be continued at home. Then we will choose a variety of colours from our large wool stash to create a piece of flat felt. This will be turned into our autumn leaves.

We will also show you how to embellish your leaves with hand stitches or bead work.

This course is suitable for complete beginners, it does require manual work which is best completed standing up. We do however take plenty of breaks and have two tutors on hand to help, so please don’t be put off if you have problems with mobility.

  • Wall Hanging – Loom Weaving

    from £32.00

On this relaxed two hour workshop we will earn how to weave using a small wooden frame lap loom. You will learn how to warp your own loom, then finish and create your own woven wall-hanging or decorative fabric. The project will have a focus on texture, pattern and colour and all materials will be included.

We will take you through the process of preparing and choosing your yarn and how to use various fibres and techniques to get you started and then our large stash of yarn and fabric are yours to enjoy.

We use a simple lap loom that is perfect for both children from the age of 6 and adults to engage with this traditional craft and learn to make something new and unique with your own two hands. Once you have the basics down, you will be able to pick and choose your textures and colours at your own pace and taste. You will leave the workshop with a lovely wall hanging, but don’t panic! If you don’t finish your piece in two hours you can finish it at home. The lap loom you have been using is all yours to keep and take home with you.

This is a very child friendly workshop, but we do ask that under 14’s are accompanied by an adult.

This is a 2 hr course and will include hot and cold beverages and lots of lovely biscuits. Please arrive 10 minutes early to allow time to get a brew and get settled, you don’t need to bring anything other than your lovely self. Directions and further information (if needed) will be emailed directly to you two weeks before the course date.

  • Crafting with the Magpies 2nd May 2020 10am – 5.30pm

    £65.00

Our Crafting with the Magpies events are our most popular workshop of the year. It involves a super busy day of 5 crafts in one day and a lovely fresh buffet lunch. WOW!! Yes, we are that excited we needed to put it in capital letters. These crafts have been specifically chosen to work within a hour time frame each. You need absolutely NO crafting experience at all to join in. All materials are provided and each craft has a specialist tutor to help and guide you through each session.

On arrival at 9.30am at The Flour Mill Studio (there is a flight of steps to climb to access the studio), you’ll be greeted with a tea or Prosecco and a good lump of cake. We’ll start with a brief introduction and plan of the day.

At 10.15am we’ll start our first craft, you will be working in groups of 6 – 8 per table, but you will do your craft individually. You will have a 15 minute introduction and demo of each craft and then 45 minutes to complete your item. After an hour at each table, the gong will sound and it’s time to move to the next craft!

We will break at half 12 for a well deserved light lunch provided by a lovely local cafe (cake is 100% involved).

At 1.30pm we will continue with two more craft sessions until 3.45pm when we will stop for a glass of Prosecco or a nice brew (and of course more cake).

4.30pm will be the start of our final craft and at the stroke of 5.30pm the final gong will sound and it’s time to relax, with a good cup of tea of course. You will be very welcome to chat to our tutors about the crafts from the day and ask any questions. We use this time to have a look at all the lovely work completed throughout the day.

The 5 crafts we have chosen for this event are:

    Mosaic Hanging Bird

    Kilt Pin Brooch

    Paper Cut Lantern

    Fabric Flower Bouquet

    Mini Loom Weaving

If all of this excitement isn’t enough we have one more surprise! Every event attendee will receive a branded Two Little Magpies badge, cotton bag and notebook, just perfect for taking your finished crafts home in.

The light lunch will consist of fresh sandwiches and salad plus savoury and sweet nibbles. Please let us know of any dietary requirements as we are inclusive to all and will cater for all and any needs.

Under 16’s are very welcome as long as they are accompanied by a fully paid adult. Unfortunately we cannot take under 8’s for these events.
