This 2 hour course is designed for complete beginners to the art of silk painting, it’s also perfect for those with experience who are feeling a little rusty.
We will start by looking at some lovely samples of resist and free form silk painting. Then we will learn how to stretch silk on a frame, how to design an image and then transfer the design to the silk using the traditional “gutta resist” technique.
Once our gutta is dry we will have LOTS of fun painting with our huge selection of colours, we will discuss mixing colours and painting techniques. We’ll also have a go at texturing our work with salt.
You will go home with a range of lovely sample pieces (perfect for card making!) a piece of spare silk and mini frame.
All equipment and full instructions are provided plus beverages and light snacks. This class is suitable for all ages.
On this relaxed two hour workshop we will earn how to weave using a small wooden frame lap loom. You will learn how to warp your own loom, then finish and create your own woven wall-hanging or decorative fabric. The project will have a focus on texture, pattern and colour and all materials will be included.
We will take you through the process of preparing and choosing your yarn and how to use various fibres and techniques to get you started and then our large stash of yarn and fabric are yours to enjoy.
We use a simple lap loom that is perfect for both children from the age of 6 and adults to engage with this traditional craft and learn to make something new and unique with your own two hands. Once you have the basics down, you will be able to pick and choose your textures and colours at your own pace and taste. You will leave the workshop with a lovely wall hanging, but don’t panic! If you don’t finish your piece in two hours you can finish it at home. The lap loom you have been using is all yours to keep and take home with you.
This is a very child friendly workshop, but we do ask that under 14’s are accompanied by an adult.
This is a 2 hr course and will include hot and cold beverages and lots of lovely biscuits. Please arrive 10 minutes early to allow time to get a brew and get settled, you don’t need to bring anything other than your lovely self. Directions and further information (if needed) will be emailed directly to you two weeks before the course date.
