Extra kits will also be available to purchase at a discount price of £12 per kit (fabric not included).
Mini Cross Stitch Bee Broochfrom £32.00
Our mini cross stitch bee workshop is absolutely perfect for complete beginners.
In this class we will go over the very basics of cross stitching, including how to split embroidery floss, read a counted pattern and then stitching our way through a simple design.
Cross stitch is worked on a ‘even weave’ which means the fabric is woven to make sure that there are the same number of threads per inch in both the warp and the weft (i.e. vertically and horizontally). This leaves perfect little squares in your fabric, into which we stitch little ‘crosses’. It is a fabulous introduction to hand embroidery without the worry of designing your own pattern.
You will be able to finish your little bee in one session and we will mount it up in our tiny wooden hoops to become a brooch or hanging decoration.
You’ll come home with your finished project and a lovely goody bag which includes some spare Aida fabric, a needle, a few mini patterns and a generous amount of embroidery floss.
Beverages and light snacks plus all materials are included.
Mono printing is a form of printing that only produces one original image, unlike other printing forms where you can get multiple prints from one original.
There are many techniques for Monoprinting that create beautiful results. Working with thick printing inks and a lovely selection of handmade papers, you will produce a number of original prints to take home with you.
Our wonderful tutor Fiona will be on hand to gently guide you in this craft. All materials are included plus beverages and light snacks.
Needle Felted Creaturesfrom £26.00
Felt is a textile that is produced by matting and knotting natural fibres together. This can be done using a wet or dry method. Needle felting is the dry method of creating 3D felt objects, or further embellishing flat pieces of work. Using special barbed needles and carded wool (from local sheep) you will learn the techniques behind creating a lovely bee brooch and then have a chance to make a little project of your own choice.
We will start by learning about the tools and equipment used in needle felting. We will have lots of samples of wool and fibre to help us learn about texture and form. Each attendee will make a small sample to practise using the needles before we start on a felted bee. You will be shown how to felt different shapes and how to join those shapes together. We will add our bee wings using felt or acetate, little eye embellishments and finally add a little brooch back or an invisible thread to complete our bees.
You will leave the course having learnt a new craft skill. If you fancy, you can also buy a felt kit and wool directly from us to continue at home.
This course is suitable for complete beginners to needle felting or those wishing to brush up their skills. As needle felting involves pushing very sharp needles into felt we recommended attendees are 12 and over (under 16 must be accompanied by an adult).
This is a 2 hr course and will include hot and cold beverages and lots of lovely biscuits. Please arrive 10 minutes early to allow time to get a brew and get settled, you don’t need to bring anything other than your lovely self. Directions and further information (if needed) will be emailed directly to you two weeks before the course date.
Paper Cutting – 3D Layering and Shapingfrom £32.00
This two hour workshop is an introduction to shaping and layering paper to create wonderful pieces of art.
You may benefit from attending our beginners workshop for paper cutting, but it is not essential. You will still be able to fully participate in this workshop as we have templates and designs for all levels of experience. You do NOT need any drawing skills to enjoy this workshop as all projects are based on templates. We are happy to show those who wish, how to create a template from your own drawing at home.
We start by looking at the different methods used to create layers with paper and an introduction to our basic tools. We will complete a warm up cutting exercise to hone our cutting skills for the session, which includes shaping a basic mini beetle. You will then choose from a huge selection of templates and be guided through cutting your own 3D project.
You will go home with a completed framed project, plus a set of templates to continue at home with the skills you have learnt during our session. You will get to keep your cutting mat, scalpel and a packet of spare blades.
Tea, biscuits and all materials are provided for the session. Suitable for 10 years and over.
