Free-Machine Embroidery with Sarah Sewellfrom £38.00
Free-machine embroidery has been described by Kirsty Allsopp as ‘the crack cocaine of the crafting world!’ and we have to agree – it is VERY addictive!
Sarah’s workshop will introduce you to this fascinating art form – it can be described as drawing with your sewing machine. This workshop is suitable for absolute beginners (no previous sewing experience required) but is also great as an introduction to a different sewing technique for more accomplished machinists or as a refresher for those that have tried free-machine embroidery before.
You will learn how to set up a sewing machine ready for free-machine embroidery and can have fun practising doodling and ‘writing’ onto fabric. Once you have mastered the basics, you will design and create your own framed textile picture using free-machine embroidery & appliqué techniques.
There will be a selection of fabrics available for you to use in your appliqué design, but you are very welcome to bring your own fabric if you prefer.
At the end of the workshop you will be able to set up a sewing machine for free-machine embroidery and have the knowledge to create your own textile art at home.
Information regarding suitable fabrics and threads etc and where to buy them will also be given to you.
You don’t need to bring anything with you as all tools and materials/equipment will be provided. However, please do feel free to bring your own fabric scraps & photos or pictures to provide inspiration for your framed picture.

Intaglio Printing (Etching with Perspex)from £26.00
Intaglio printing is often referred to as drypoint etching. During this workshop we will be use pointed tools to etch (cut and mark) an acetate plate. The burr we create in the acetate will help hold ink in the recessed areas. Once etched, we will ink up and print our plate using an etching press.
We’ll be using a variety of lovely papers in our printing process, taking care to notice the differences that dampening the paper can make while printing.
This etching process requires you to hand draw marks onto your plate. If you feel free hand drawing is not your strong point, we have plenty of reference images you may use. The acetate we have is crystal clear and perfect for tracing an image for beginners or for those that just want to jump straight into the process without the worry of drawing out an image.
Beverages and light snacks are included as are all materials. This workshop is suitable for all ages.
Lino Printingfrom £35.00
On this 2 hr course our lovely tutor Fiona will teach you the art of lino cutting and printing.
Fiona will start the session by looking at plenty of samples of images printed using lino cutting techniques. She will talk about the tools involved and you will get to handle and use each tool to create a small practise piece.
Fiona will go on to help you plan a design and then how to transfer it to the lino. You will be able to use the tools used on your sample to create a linocut.
Lastly, Fiona will show you a couple of methods of burnishing and printing your linocut. You’ll go home with your lovely linocut, some sample prints. There is no excuse for not displaying your fab piece of art at home straight away!
